Disclaimer: Use these techniques at your own risk. Pet stains can damage fibres and we recommend testing the cleaning product on a small area before applying it fully. If the stain or odour persists, call Best Clean Carpet Cleaning right away.
As outlined above, a wet vacuum is a must-have for any pet owner, as it will quickly and easily suck up the liquid before it seeps deeper into your carpet or upholstery. Available at most hardware stores, wet vacuums or small spot removal machines are a great way to tackle stains. However, if all else fails, soak up the liquid with paper towels.
Many pet owners forget or fail to remove the urine first, so it’s advisable to do this at the outset, before cleaning. Once this is done, an enzyme cleaning product is the best solution for dealing with urine, vomit, and faeces, as it consumes the ‘bad bacteria’. It’s also extremely versatile and can be used on any surface, including carpet, upholstery, and wood.
Alternatively, you can dilute one cup of vinegar with two cups of water and while this won’t digest the bacteria, it will help remove the stain. A neutral PH spotting agent also works well for general cleaning, although a high PH or residue product, including ammonia-based products, are unsuitable, as well as oxygen bleach.
N.B.: These spotters should not be used on urine or vomit.
To remove the urine stain, once the liquid has been removed, rinse with plain water followed by several passes of your dry vacuum. You can then sprinkle more water over the stain and use your wet vac to remove this.
It’s important to tackle urine stains as soon as possible, as they will permanently stain and eventually eat away at the carpet fibres or upholstery. It will also leave an unpleasant odour and bacteria, so give Best Clean Carpet Cleaning a call if you’re having issues.
We recommend general maintenance every six to 12 months if a pet lives in the home, and our experienced team at Best Clean Carpet Cleaning are always on hand to help should you need us.
